About
Probably at this point you’re thinking (if you don’t already know me), “Who the hell is the guy?”
Here’s the short version. I’m a public relations professional, a former journalist, writer, graduate student and father. I’ve been blogging on and off, one way or another, since around the summer of 2001, as I recall. That first blog is mostly long gone (the Wayback Machine didn’t discover me until 2002).
I’m now working as a senior account executive at RLF Communications, but everything I write here is strictly mine, and does not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Before, I was senior reporter at the Triad Business Journal. I’ve also worked as a reporter at the Greensboro News & Record and as a reporter and editor at the Durham Herald-Sun. I was communications director for a couple years at the Southern Growth Policies Board. And I’ve also freelanced quite a bit over the years, sometimes full time and sometimes part time, sometimes journalism and sometimes marketing and PR. I’ve worked as a stringer for The New York Times, written for Wired News and had numerous articles in various newspapers and magazines in North Carolina.
I earned an English degree from N.C. State in 1994 (go Pack!) and an MBA from Elon University in 2008.
I have two daughters, four and one as of this writing, and a wonderful wife.
I write about lots of different stuff here. On any given day, that’s likely to include media and journalism, writing and literature, science fiction and fantasy, a little politics and religion, Internet stuff and whatever else catches my attention. I like to think my interests are eclectic, but it may be that I’m just easily distracted by shiny things.
